SYDNEY BASIN The Sydney Basin extends along the coast from Batemans Bay in the south to Port Stephens in the north. Inland it extends up the Hunter Valley past Muswellbrook, west across the Blue Mountains to Lithgow, and south to the Southern Tablelands beyond Moss Vale. The geological formations of the Sydney Basin are Permian and Triassic. (see geological timescale)
