THE SYDNEY-BOWEN BASIN
|
The Sydney Basin is the southern section of a 3000 kilometre long
north-south trough called the Sydney-Bowen Basin.
The Sydney-Bowen Basin subsided about 290 million years ago
when the New England Fold Belt pushed westwards against
the Lachlan Fold Belt.
At this time Australia was part of the great mass of continents
we call Gondwana and was situated close to the South Pole.
(See previous panel on Gondwana.)
