ROCKS OF THE SYDNEY BASIN

It took about 50 million years for the Sydney Basin to form.
Over this period massive amounts of sediment were eroded
from the uplifting New England Fold Belt, filling the basin
to a depth of about 6 kilometres.
The resulting sandstone, conglomerate, shale,
siltstones, and coal characterise our region.

Here are a few examples of the various rocks
which occur in the Sydney Basin
