Each basic rock type, eg sandstone or shale, produces a distinctive type of soil. Each type of soil supports a different sort of vegetation such as heath, open or closed forest, and grassland. As well there are wetlands and seashores. Different species of birds require a particular habitat for feeding and breeding, and they have adapted to vegetation matching their needs. |
