WETLANDS
At Rileys Bay and Cockle Bay
remnants still existing at Hardys Bay and Pretty Beach.
There is a succession from deep water through intersected
alluvial flats, mangroves, samphire and reeds to she-oaks
and swamp mahoganies. This vegetation produces food
and roosting places for fishing birds and waders.

BIRDS in wetlands include

Residents: herons, egrets and mangrove bitterns
Wanderers: ibis, ducks, pelicans and swans
Migrants: eastern curlews, godwits and sandpipers
